The ASTR RS is a performance-driven gravel bike developed for modern gravel racing. This is evident from its groundbreaking tire clearance — a category-leading move that anticipates the growing trend toward wider tires. Gravel races are becoming increasingly rough, while riders are going faster than ever, placing new demands on the bike.
The Astr RS also features aero-optimized tube shapes and a fork with an integrated diffuser, based on Ridley's Falcn RS aero-to-weight research. In addition, it has a confidence-inspiring geometry with high-speed stability in mind: longer wheelbase, a slacker head angle, and a lower bottom bracket.
Riders need to conserve more energy during the race. With optimized aerodynamics, greater comfort, lower rolling resistance from wider tires, and improved climbing performance thanks to the low weight, the Astr RS ensures riders reach the finale with more energy in the tank than their competitors.
Modern performance geometry demands more stability due to increasingly rough terrain combined with higher speeds. A 71.5-degree headtube angle ensures you have faster handling. The Astr family features a steeper seat tube (74 degrees), improving climbing performance and power transfer.
The product developers kept the chainstays as short as possible to accommodate tyres up to 52 millimetres without losing the feeling of responsiveness when accelerating. In addition, the bottom bracket is a bit lower. This ensures you have more stability at high speed. Finally, the head height is lower, so you sit more aerodynamically on the bike. In summary, this boils down to a modern competitive geometry, tailor-made for the ambitious gravel racer.
The RS in Astr RS stands for 'Racing Sport'. This bike has one goal, to be the best in its class! The heart of the Astr RS is the Elite series carbon frame. With a weight of only 890 grams in size medium, the frame is designed to be as light as possible without sacrificing aerodynamics. This is achieved through the use of sleek tube profiles and a carbon lay-up focused on weight reduction.
For the Elite Series, Ridley uses every type of carbon available to us: 60T, 50T, 30T, and 24T. The higher the 'tonnage', the higher the tensile strength of the carbon fibers and the more intensive the development and processing. The perfect blend of 24T, 30T, 50T, and 60T carbon is essential. Each type of frame requires a different combination of carbon.
That's why for each bike in the Elite Series, we investigate which zones comfort is essential. In which areas can weight be saved without compromising the characteristics of the bike? Where is stiffness crucial? Time and again, that balance is sought and found. The composition of the carbon, that's where Ridley makes the difference!
Ridley's off-road bikes are developed in collaboration with the Ridley Racing Team. As a professional cyclocross and gravel team, they bring the competition-level knowledge and experience needed to help us create the best bikes. They search for marginal gains, share insights from deep within the peloton, and ultimately prove the performance of our bikes at the very top level.
The ASTR RS received the Design & Innovation Award at the beginning of 2025. The jury is particularly enthusiastic about our engineers. "The ASTR RS sets a new benchmark in the gravel racing category, combining aero efficiency with off-road prowess. The stiff, aerodynamically- optimised frame and low overall system weight ensure outstanding acceleration, while the rigid front end enables precise handling. With ample tire clearance of up to 52 mm and a progressive geometry, the ASTR RS effortlessly tackles technical sections while remaining stable and controlled on fast descents."
The integrated diffuser fork crown reduces aerodynamic drag by directing airflow more efficiently through the fork and around the downtube. This minimizes turbulence behind the fork and head tube for improved aerodynamic performance.
Less resistance. More speed.
The Astr family features groundbreaking tire clearance: 52 millimeters with a 1x setup and 47 millimeters with a 2x setup. This is no coincidence, but the result of a carefully considered vision from our product developers. They anticipated the increasing technical demands of gravel racing and the growing desire among riders for more grip, stability, and versatility.
At a time when gravel bikes are continually pushing boundaries, the Astr family positions itself as a category-leading innovator. With these exceptional specifications, we underline our ambition not just to follow trends, but to inspire and define what gravel truly means.
The focus in the road bike market used to be on stiffness versus weight, but has recently shifted to the balance between aero and weight. Ridley decided to combine the best of both worlds with the Astr, which means it has been made as aerodynamic as possible without sacrificing the bike's weight. The Astr has a similar aero performance to the Kanzo Fast and weighs just 890g (in size Medium), meaning cyclists no longer have to choose between lightweight and aero.
The universal derailleur hanger (UDH) is the new standard in the cycling world. Not only is this derailleur hanger compatible with all modern shifting groups, it also protects against derailleur breakage and chain drops. In mountain biking, UDH has long been very common, and Ridley is bringing the technology to other segments as well.
A removable front derailleur clamp provides a clean, integrated appearance when using a 1x drivetrain. Developed with Wolf Tooth, the custom chainguide and chain catcher fit seamlessly, while a dedicated cover replaces the clamp for a refined finish when not in use.
